National Depression Forum Part One
The government of Ghana recently organized a 3 day economic forum from May 14-15 with blight aspirations of furrowing ideas to fix the economy . The first question that came to my mind was . Really? . An economic forum ! What for? Immediately it dawned on me that the tax payers money is going to be wasted yet again in another fruitless talk shop of finding solutions to our never ending economic problems .
The forum was attended by the tough and stout names who were suppose to be the ideas heavyweights for our economic turnaround, but it always doesn't work that way. I remember someone calling me pessimist because i disagreed with certain assertions of an economic turnaround. This was simply because i just didn't see anything happening. for you to build, you must have a foundation in place and i have not seen any.Even the majority of state owned enterprises left by Nkrumah have been privatized.
Now tell me why I shouldn't be a pessimist when I don't see anything progressive happening in the country. Don't get me wrong .When i say progressive,I mean it should reflect in my pocket and the vast majority of the people, except perhaps if you're lazy and refuse to work . The problem i have is that all the "top" guys who participated in the forum have previously held key positions government. So tell me if they couldn't proffer any useful solutions then, what difference would a 3 days talk shop do?.
Honestly ,If there was anyone in Ghana with a brilliant idea to slice our economic problems. I'm not saying there isn't. In fact we have a lot of professors who in one or the other have paid their dues . But if indeed ,there was any super IDEA,we wouldn't be holding any economic forum, would we? we would have utilized them and these thoughts flowing through my head wont be converted into words .The big Question remains what new ideas are they going to offer this time ? I say nothing . It's simply a tea drinking session , deflating the national purse with impunity . I cry for my country .
